Are you ready for Coaching

As a Certified Executive Leadership Coach, here's a hard truth I've learned: 👉 Coaching is not for everyone. 👉 Not everyone is coachable.
Now, do I believe everyone could benefit from Coaching? Absolutely. Research backs it up: Coaching is one of the most powerful tools for personal growth, leadership transformation, and lasting behavior change. But for it to work, you have to be ready.
Let me tell you a story I've seen play out many times.
Meet Jeff—a CEO of a growing tech startup. He's smart and driven, and his company is attracting major investors. His leadership team believes in the mission, his employees follow his vision... But Jeff doesn't know when to turn it off.
His VP of Engineering says, "He's like a robot. His intensity is burning people out." The Chief People Officer has brought it up multiple times. No change. She recommends Coaching. Jeff shrugs: "Sure. Maybe I'll learn a few tricks."
In his first session with Blake, an executive coach, Jeff says:
"I'm here because my team thinks I'm too intense. You're going to help me fix that."
Hard stop. This is what happens when someone shows up to coaching expecting to be fixed, not to do the work.
Even after explaining that coaching is about discovery, reflection, and growth—not being handed answers—many people still show up expecting quick solutions.
To be fair… I've been there too. When I first hired a coach, my brain didn't yet understand that I already had the answers—I just needed help finding them. That's the shift. That's the coachability.
Here's the thing about the human brain:
It's lazy. It wants someone else to give it the answer.
It's also stubborn. It already thinks it knows the right answer—consciously or unconsciously.
That combination? Absolute chaos for Coaching. Because Coaching is about confronting your belief systems, your defaults, your comfort zone—and choosing to expand beyond them.
So if you're thinking, "I'm probably not coachable," don't worry. I felt that way too, until I didn't. But if you're ready to explore growth, stretch your mindset, and step into your next level of leadership, Coaching might be precisely what you need.
Are You Coachable? Ask Yourself:
🔹 Do I bring curiosity and a beginner's mindset?
🔹 Am I willing to be vulnerable to create deeper results?
🔹 Do I trust that I have the answers—and just need the space to find them?
🔹 Am I open to hearing my blind spots, even if it's uncomfortable?
🔹 Can I stay present and make space to focus on myself?
🔹 Will I take responsibility for my learning?
🔹 Am I ready to commit to meaningful change?
As I've learned over and over again in this work, Coaching gives back what you put into it. For those ready for the journey, it can be transformative. For those not ready, it can feel frustrating and forced.
So I'll leave you with this:
💬 Are you coachable?
💬 Is it time to take an honest look at how you lead?
💬 Are you ready to do the work?
